Giving

As a privately-funded center within a public university, the von Liebig Center relies almost entirely on the financial support of organizations and individuals who share our vision for advancing promising discoveries into the marketplace where they improve our quality of life and fuel the economy.

Since its inception six years ago, the Center has funded and advised over 70 faculty projects which have resulted in 15 start-up companies and more than 60 jobs. Over 350 engineering students have participated in the Center's entrepreneurial education programs. We are now looking to expand on our successes in the Jacobs School of Engineering to offer the von Liebig Center's program to faculty and students across disciplines at UCSD. Our goal is to accelerate the commercialization of exciting advances in clean technologies, medical devices, diagnostics, wireless, information technology and more.

With your help, we can continue to fulfill our important dual missions of educating tomorrow's technology leaders and accelerating the commercialization of discoveries that benefit society.

We invite you to consider the following giving opportunities:

  • YOUR GIFT OF $1,000,000 establishes a named ENDOWED INNOVATION FUND to be awarded annually through the von Liebig Center's signature competitive selection process. Each award will provide an outstanding graduate student and faculty team with a grant to support the commercialization of promising inventions, and recipients will receive both expert business mentoring and resources for student financial support, proof of concept prototypes and technology validation for at least a year.
  • YOUR GIFT OF $300,000 creates a SEED ROUND, enabling the von Liebig Center to fund up to four high-potential inventions. Donors may designate the seed round to focus on a particular technology category such as clean technologies or medical devices. Outstanding faculty and graduate student teams will be selected through the von Liebig Center's signature competitive selection process, and will receive both expert business mentoring and resources for student financial support, proof of concept prototypes and technology validation for at least a year.
  • YOUR GIFT OF $75,000 establishes an INNOVATION FUND that provides an outstanding graduate student and faculty team with a grant to support the commercialization of a promising invention. The fund will be awarded through the von Liebig Center's signature competitive selection process, and the recipient will receive both expert business mentoring and resources for student financial support, proof of concept prototypes and technology validation for at least a year.
  • YOUR GIFT OF $35,000 establishes an ADVISORY FUND that provides an outstanding graduate student and faculty team with access to the von Liebig Center' s experienced team of business and technology advisors. This team will help guide inventors through the commercialization of their discovery with services including: market analysis, business model planning, and identifying and marketing the technology to potential licensees and investors for at least a year.
  • YOUR GIFT IN ANY AMOUNT contributes to the ANGEL FUND and allows the von Liebig Center to support the transfer of exciting discoveries from university research labs into the marketplace where they can benefit society and create new jobs.
