ENG 207 - Corporate Entrepreneurship for Global Competitiveness (4)
This course will explore corporate entrepreneurship and the innovation process using the medical device industry as a case example. This highly dynamic industry segment provides an approachable model to analyze corporate strategies and behaviors that affect overall competitiveness. Topics to be examined include:
- Why highly innovative companies born of an entrepreneurial spirit find it increasingly difficult to remain innovative as they become larger
- The changing definition of what constitutes acceptable risk and sufficient reward as a company matures
- How external forces such as regulation, litigation, investor pressure, and the media can impede the innovation process and what remedies should be considered
- The role corporate climate and corporate culture play in promoting the innovation process
- Strategies that promote internal entrepreneurship to mid to large size companies
This course will use a blend of introductory lectures, case studies and team exercises. A high level of student participation is anticipated in class discussions and in the development of case studies.
