Developing Innovative Ideas & Performing New Product Projects: Creating, assessing & developing the innovative new product/market idea.
This course gives students:
- A broad acquaintance with many different facets of enterprise as a basis for career choices in existing companies or as an aid in proceeding with an entrepreneurial career
- A deep understanding of the core processes of innovation and new product/market development.
Through classes centered around readings, case studies, exercises and projects, working individually and in teams the student discover:
- What technologically-aggressive industrial ventures are made of and how they work.
- How new product/market ideas are found, developed and refined.
- How the future technological feasibility, market potential and financial performance of innovative new ventures are assessed.
- What key concepts, terminology and tools are used to influence new venture effectiveness.
- How new ventures compete and how engineers as individuals and in teams contribute.
- How competing interests in a venture, including engineering, are balanced and directed.
- How engineers can perform better in these environments and build more successful careers.
- What skills and attitudes, such as writing, presentation and teamwork, are critical to a successful engineer's career.
