Michael Krupp, Ph.D..

Dr. Krupp has recently joined the von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology advancement at the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering as a Business and Technology Adviser. He also volunteers his time to the CONNECT Springboard program as an Entrepreneur in Residence to assist emerging life science companies prepare their business plans/strategy for presentation to funding organizations and is a member of the Board of the CONNECT Foundation. In addition, Dr. Krupp contributes to a program to introduce the principles of commercial development of new pharmaceuticals to pharmacy students at the USC School of Pharmacy.
Previously Dr. Krupp was Sr. V.P. of Business Development and Chief Business Officer of Chugai Pharma USA, LLC (CPUSA) in San Diego. He joined Gen-Probe’s Therapeutics Division in January 1995 and transferred to CPUSA, when the company was formed in July 1995. Dr. Krupp was responsible for identifying and acquiring products and technology to complement and expand CPUSA’s project pipeline. He also lead the market research and strategic marketing efforts for Chugai drug candidates outside of Japan including the recently filed anti-IL-6 receptor antibody, Actemira, a novel agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. He was also responsible for general business operations. Prior to Chugai, Dr. Krupp served as Director, Licensing and Development, at Pfizer, Inc. He started his industry career in Pfizer Central Research in the areas of Diabetes drug discovery and General Pharmacology.
Dr. Krupp received his B.S. in Chemistry from Hobart College and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine. He completed his Postdoctoral Research at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
